THE SOUTHERN BAROSSA ROARED!The Reservoir Outdoor Adventure Race ROARED ahead on Saturday October 16 after months of planning and organisation - and it was declared a ROARING success by all those who attended!
The Triathlon event kicked off at 8:30 in the morning with 100 elite, intermediate and novice competitors kayaking, mountain-bike riding and running on the Warren Reservoir and through the adjoining Mount Crawford Forest, ending 5 and-a-half-hours later with worn-out competitors - and organisers! Below is our video of the event - and further below, check out our photos of the event! (thank you, competitor 'Sputnik' for the action 'on bike' images...!)
The event was hailed as highly competitive, well organised - and most importantly a lot of fun - by those who took part, or attended as spectators. It's estimated that more than 220 people attended the event.
ROAR was supported by SA Water’s Reservoirs Partnership Program, the SA Government, Forestry SA, The Barossa Council and the Southern Barossa Alliance. The ROAR Barossa team consisted of:
One of the stars of the day was the Mount Crawford YOWIE - or 'Doolagahl' - who showed up to see who was stomping on his ground - and hung around to entertain the crowd - and the kids. Into the future, ROAR has the potential to play a major part in South Australia’s international sporting calendar and it is hoped it will take its place alongside events such as the Tour Down Under.
